Grading Guidelines
Every record is visually inspected for scuffs or scratches. Generally, records in VG- to NM (near mint) condition will be listed for sale.
Records that fall below this grading will not be available through the regular inventory. In the future, there may be an area where DJ's
or people needing scratching vinyl will be able to pick up titles for extremely low pricing. Below are the guidelines we use to grade
our records.
The Record (Lp's, 45's)
NM (Near Mint): Like new, looks unplayed.
VG++: A few very faint surface marks, nothing that will affect play.
VG+: A few more marks than a VG++. Used but not abused, still a quality record.
VG: Light scuffs and light scratches, there will be light surface wear to the record. Expect some light surface noise in parts or a few clicks or pops here and there.
VG-: The record may have some scatches that will be deep enough to feel. Audible clicks and pops may be consistently present, but no skips.
G: A record that has not been taken care of. Constant background noise will be present. Buyer should view records with this grade as filler copies.
The Record (78's)
N. As new and unplayed (This is an unlikely scenario).
N-. Nearly Mint, has been played. Very clean, no signs of wear or damage.
E+. Very clean record, plays line new. Only a few signs of handling, such as small scuffs from sliding in and out of the jacket.
E. Has a nice shine, no signs of wear. A few scuffs and scratches may be present.
E-. Retains shine, but no lustre of a new record. There may be a few light scratches.
V+. 78's in this category are average condition. General use and a few suffs have dulled the playing surface. Moderate wear, but playing is generally distortion free.
V. A moderate condition record. The record is still very playable with even wear throughout. Scratches and surface noise will be audible but not overly.
V-. A very playable record, but greying and distortion will be present. Scratches and surface noise below the music level.
G+. Greying across the record, but still serviceable. Music begins to sound noticeably muffled. Scratches present.
G . Serious scratches and worn, but music can be heard over the surface noise.
G-. Music is still there, but scratches and wear is extensive.
F . Listening is uncomfortable. Music remains audible over the surface noise.
P . Unplayable.
The Jacket
NM (Near Mint): The cover looks excellent, may have the celophane on the record.
VG+: The jacket looks very good, there may be slight wear on the edges, but nothing major.
VG: The jacket is in good condition. There may be a few dings on the corners, or slight ring wear.
VG-: Ring wear is evident. There may be some splits and the edges may be worn.
G: The jacket has a worn look to it. Used and could be on the rough side.
